TASK 4

1. Description of inspiration 

I was inspired by the emotional reels in instagram and tiktok where they use life quotes, simple flat illustrations and emotional songs. Their visual is always somehow simple but touching, which makes me wanna create something like that.

5. Detailed Information 

Storyboard: 

• First illustration - I’m planning to make the first scene minimalist style, the door will open slowly revealing a dark empty room. 

• Second illustration -The second scene “breathe and trust”, someone who is looking up at the sky try to inhale and exhale their breath calmly then they calm down by enjoying the scenery. 

• Third illustration - last one they let go a star on his hand and it flew up to the sky. 

Illustration meaning :

• First illustration - Dark empty room is like how we sometimes feel lost without plan, just alive but not knowing where and what we go and do 

• Second illustration - The silhouette breathed in and out is like letting life keep going and let life takes you wherever it goes with trust and no fear. 

• Third illustration - The star in the silhouette hand is like some thoughts, worries, or hopes that we can't control. Letting go means trusting and finally free of worry. Silhouette turns glowing white because they learn how to let go.

6. Rationale 

This project is a deep and emotional video, mainly about letting go and learning to trust the process in life or in ourselves. Sometimes we feel lost and empty, but that is just us who needs rest. By using flat illustration and minimalist style, I play around with the color and silhouette to create a simple yet emotional visual. A dark empty room is like how we sometimes feel lost without any plan, just alive but not knowing where and what we go and do. The silhouette breathed in and out is like letting life keep going and letting life take you wherever it goes with trust and no fear. The star in the silhouette hand is like some thoughts, worries, or hopes that we can't control. Letting go means trusting and finally free of worry. Silhouette turn glowing white because they learn how to let go. 

7. Illustration

Illustration 1 - this is a simple and minimalist illustration created by me from adobe illustrator for the line "we don't always need a plan". There's not much I do here only using shapes and pen tool to create silhouette.

Illustration 2 - this is a flat illustration that I created in adobe illustrator for the line "sometimes we just need to breath, trust" it mainly uses the gradient tecnique especially when i wanted to create a dramatic background, which I applied on the clouds, sky, and sun.

Illustration 3 - also a flat illustration in adobe illustrator, but this time I focus more on glow effects like in the starts. sky, silhouette, moon. I also apply the effect gradient as ususal to create the clouds, waves, and light reflection. Last but not least the bridge was applied with the texture effects so it didn't look plain.

8. Animation

I edited, animated, and input the text all in after effects. The progress is quite long, quite the same with task 3 progress but the difference is, I need to input sound, back sound, and script. I generate the text to speech from elevenlabs and found a back sound named Strawberry Guy from youtube. I also cut the audio to adjust them not too fast and too slow.

TECHNIQUE APPLIED

In this project, the technique I used is pretty much the same from last task (task 3). For Illustration, I used shapes and pen tool to create silhouettes, then gradient for some coloring parts, such as sky, cloud, reflection. Glowing effects were used to show shining things, like sun, moon, stars. For animation, most efects I use in after effects might be position, puppet, mesh, deform and a little masking. For the text, I use masking. First I type the text first then I mask them with rectangle shape then adjust it by following the sound. 

REFLECTION

What did you like the most in this assignment?

I enjoy making symbolic illustrations and elements in this project so much, since we could tell a story in each of them and there’s always a message behind it. 

What can be improved based on your submission? 

Based on my submission, I think I could improve more on the animation in this project. I realized maybe the animation is a bit stiff and I could put more keyframes in it.
