The Baskerville typeface though appearing symmetrical, has nuanced details like varying stroke weights & unique arcs that reveal its asymmetry.

Typeface like Baskerville and Universe showcase its design by harmonious letter forms, often featuring subtle asymmetries.

Typeface design requires : simplicity, consistency, and replicable features.

In typography, optical adjustments are needed for the letter to appear equal in size

Letter forms & surrounding space should be balance for readability

Typography contrast is a key design principle which to differ the information with variation of fonts.

INSTRUCTION

TASK 2

We were asked to design layouts based on the article we chose by using the combination of type expression and word formatting, using 10 fonts provided in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign software. I then decided to choose Punk's Design Revolution: Breaking the Rules article and did some research about punk typography and style.

Research & reference for Headline :

Sketches :

Fig 1.1 Sketches

After some research, I realized that punk style is full of bold and dirty style also something that challenging norms.

Digitalized :

LAYOUT 1

Fig 2 Layout 1

This first layout is more like just my experiment because I didn't put too much effect and vibes of the punk, and it looks too plain and simple.

LAYOUT 2

Fig 2.1 Layout 2

After Consulting with Ms.Vit from the previous layout, she suggest me to do some more research about what punk typography style is like and apply it in the headline. From that, I try to make punk like fonts I found in the internet and It turns out quite good. But somehow, I feel it still too simple and doesn't really look or feel like punk enough

LAYOUT 3

Fig 2.2 Layout 3

I actually like the idea of this layout, especially the word PUNK'S. But still, I feel this one still need improvement and more development.

LAYOUT 4

Fig 2.3 Layout 4

After some consultation and experiment, I try to apply a dirt splatter effect on the headline and give the PUNK'S word more character by playing with Italic effect, invert, and rotating the alphabet. The headline is nice, but the top right just felt too empty and awkward.

LAYOUT 5

Lastly after some experiment of layouts, I ended up choosing this layout because I manage to balance it and it have more punk characteristic.

REFLECTION

I feel this task is quite hard for me, but it makes me more understand on how to arrange text and headline nicely and in a good order.

I realized how I choose and design the headline, layout, and the text effects the mood. So in this case I realize I need to carefully design the headline, text and choosing the font to suit the topic or content.

Lastly, I found out that the hardest thing about this task is to try make the layout looking not awkward and balance. Sometimes it took me so many tries in 1 layout to make the design work and look nice visually.

FEEDBACK

Week 6 - General Feedback : The design shouldn't be so simple its not just about playing with the arrangement of letters, alphabets, capital letters, bold, or italic. It should look more interesting and more expressive.                                                                                      Week 6 - Specific Feedback : Need to explore more design and research on punk typography style and it cannot be added with too much elements.

Week 7 - General Feedback : Ms.Vit suggest us to do the font lettering from A-Z since we we are gonna use it for poster.
Week 7 - Specific Feedback : Need some improvement on the headline since it looks too simple.
